The Hobbit is a good book for children as the characters aren't all two-dimensional ie. either wholly good or bad as you find in a lot of stories.
Animal Farm is like a young person's 1984; probably scarier. The Call of the wild, by Jack London, on the face of it is about a dog being stolen and taken to the Norhwest Territories. It has all the themes of race and nationalism though and reflects the beliefs of the author. We have a copy of Storyteller, a series of partworks, that came out about 20 years ago. I've just complete reading the first volume to our youngest. |

The plague dogs by Richard Adams is a good read for older children.
"Two dogs, Rowf and Snitter, escape from a research lab into the wild mountain ranges of England. Somehow they must learn to survive and get along with each other in spite of personality differences: Rowf is violent and has no trust in humans, while Snitter is friendly and always looking for a good master. When they begin stealing sheep, the local farmers try to have them taken back by the research station, but the lab staff isn't anxious to admit that they have had a breach. When Digby Driver, a young reporter, discovers that the lab was also working on Bubonic Plague, things escalate to a full-scale hunt." It does have a happy ending.

I was always fascinated by 'Lord of the Flies' as a child.
'Treasure Island' is another good one for children. |

Our teacher read Animal Farm to us in the 3rd year at junior school; that and the Pharisees being cleared out of the Temple paved my way.

There are so many books for the children to read. But I suggest you that children have to read those books which are increase there knowledge. So they have to read books of general knowledge with the study books.

Good books for children hey, I wonder why Rudyard Kipling is no longer popular?
I have always loved Kim, The Jungle Book and the Just So series. Stout reading matter for children of all ages. mox |
