The financial situation...
http://www.kitcocasey.com/kkcImages/1229172101-toilet.jpgVery good, I like that:D
At the end of 2006, it was estimated that all the gold ever mined totaled 158,000 tonnes.
At today's gold price ($822 per oz.) 158,000 tonnes has a value of roughly $4.1 trillion.
It is estimated that the Paulson and Bernanke bailout programme will cost US taxpayers $8.5 trillion. [i.e. around 328,000 tons of gold]
World War II cost around $4.1 Trillion
Total NASA expenditure to date $0.89 Trillion
The Vietnam War $0.68 Trillion
The Iraq war $0.65 Trillion
World War I $0.5 Trillion
Hope this helps put a perspective on things *hat*

What would happen if they just wiped out the debt and started again?
Let's say you had a couple of thousand pounds in the bank which in turn has been lent out to a third party. If that person's debt was wiped out when you come in to get your money the bank tells you it has been wiped out. You accept that statement quite peacefullly and go home. Like hell you do ! ;)
That's when the crapola hits the fan big time.

Thanks for that glorious news from Elie Wiesel, hatemonger and liar extraordinaire!
The following message in blue is from Elie himself to ALL of his contributors. It just breaks your heart, doesn't it? Keep sending those checks.
To Our Friends:
We are deeply saddened and distressed that we, along with many others, have been the victims of what may be one of the largest investment frauds in history. We are writing to inform you that the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity had $15.2 million under management with Bernard Madoff Investment Securities. This represented substantially all of the Foundation's assets.
The values we stand for are more needed than ever. We want to assure you that the Foundation remains committed to carrying on the lifelong work of our founder, Elie Wiesel. We shall not be deterred from our mission to combat indifference, intolerance, and injustice around the world.
At this difficult time, the Foundation wishes to express its profound gratitude for all your support.
The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity

----------------------------------------------------------
Young Chuck in Montana bought a horse from a farmer for $100. The
farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day.
The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have
some bad news, the horse died.'
Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my money back.'
The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already'
Chuck said, 'Ok, then, just bring me the dead horse.'
The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with him?
Chuck said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.'
The farmer said, 'You can't raffle off a dead horse!'
Chuck said, 'Sure I can, Watch me. I just won't tell any body he's
dead.'
A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, 'What happened
with that dead horse?'
Chuck said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a
piece and made a profit of $998.'
The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?'
Chuck said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars
back.'
Chuck grew up and works now for the government. He was the one who
figured out how to "bail us out".
This is very good, aber leider nur auf deutsch.
